How to Build an Octagon Base Wishing Well
How to build a 6 ft. wishing well for your yard or garden. These
downloadable woodworking plans include photos at every step!
This 6 ft. tall wishing well features a cedar shingle roof, rope,
and hanging bucket. With a few woodworking tools and some
intermediate skill, you can build this wishing well to show off
to your friends and neighbors.

To build this large wishing well, you’ll need intermediate
woodworking skills and some common shop tools. The materials
include twelve (12) pressure-treated 2 x 4’s and a sheet of
plywood for the roof. The cedar shingles can be purchased at
any home improvement store in the roofing section. The cost of
materials is going to be between $120 and $150 depending on
the grade of lumber and what you pay for the bucket. The plans
will include a detailed materials list as well as the tools you’ll
need to build the wishing well. If you have a miter or chop saw,
you can cut the pieces quickly, however a circular or table saw
will also work. A drill driver makes quick work of driving the
fasteners; a nail gun is also recommended for attaching the trim
and roof shingles. This wishing well can be placed over unsightly
objects in your yard like well pipes and stumps. The interior
dimension of the base is 27.5” (22.5” between the posts) and is
completely hollow.
