LAWN LIGHTHOUSE PROJECT PLANS
These downloadable woodworking plans show you how to
build a lighthouse for your yard that your friends and
neighbors will envy. With these illustrated step by step
instructions, you can build a nautical masterpiece that will be
sure to stand out. These DIY lighthouse plans are
downloadable, so you can immediately start working on your
lighthouse. The plans include a list all of the materials and
tools you’ll need, and actual construction photos accompany
every step of the way. The plans read like a book and are
much easier to follow than a set of blueprints. Top off your
lighthouse with a solar or revolving beacon or add your own
post or pathway light. All you need is some wood, paint, and a
little motivation!
To build the lighthouses on
this page, you’ll need some
intermediate woodworking
skills and common shop tools.
Some folks like the look of a
lighthouse that is unpainted
and natural, while others want
to build one that resembles a
real lighthouse. Any of the
lighthouses here can be
painted or stained a color
scheme of your choosing.
The cost of materials to build
the majority of these
lighthouses is less than $100.
Most can be constructed from
one sheet of plywood. Some
may require an additional half
sheet. For a painted
lighthouse, MDO plywood is
recommended. While any
exterior 3/4” exterior plywood
can be used, MDO is a high
quality signboard that comes
with a resin backing, more
layers, and can be purchased
with primer on one or both
sides. Ask for it at your local
home improvement store.
The angles are always a
challenge when making the
sides of a lawn lighthouse. A
table saw can be used if you
have the skills, but a circular
saw works best as long as you
use a straightedge and set the
blade-tilt per the plans.
